Jacks in the Pros
The Jackrabbits have had 11 players drafted by Major League Baseball teams since 1966. Most recently, pitcher Layne Somsen was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Two former Jackrabbit pitchers are currently on Major League rosters as Caleb Thielbar has pitched for the Minnesota Twins during the 2013 and 2014 seasons and Blake Treinen made his MLB in 2014 with the Washington Nationals.
Summt League Champions
The Jackrabbits won their first Summit League conference title in 2013 and went to NCAA Tournament for the first time at the Division I level. SDSU was the top seed in the Summit League Baseball Championship in both 2013 and 2014.
Veteran Squad
The South Dakota State baseball team will be led during the 2015 season by a senior class consisting of 12 players. All-Summit League pitchers Adam Bray, Chad Hodges and J.D. Moore all return.
Coaching Staff
Veteran coach Dave Schrage enters his fourth season as head coach at SDSU and 26th as a collegiate head coach. Schrage, who stands 23 wins away from 700 for his career, is assisted by Brian Grunzke, Ben Norton and Matt Bowman.
Facility Enhancements
With the completion of the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, the SDSU baseball team will benefit from expanded indoor training facilities. Improvements also have been made to Erv Huether Field, with the completion of the Abdnor Archway, as well as the installation of a new batter's eye and fencing around the home field of the Jackrabbits..
